I put a sign up on the back of my van today. (There is still a constitutional right to freedom of speech in America, right? Just double checking.)
But I don’t feel that is enough to honor the legacy of a man who did right, only to be disgraced by the wrong of others.
Only those who have themselves suffered inexplicable heartache and shame at the hand of those looking for a scapegoat to cover their own misconduct and/or superior’s negligence of fiduciary (and ethical) responsibility, can begin to understand what I am saying here.
My sign simply says “Joe Paterno died of a broken spirit … Cowards vilify those exposing evil, rather than those perpetrating it.” May he rest in peace, for the shadow cast his way can no longer reach the light of his true legacy.
