Column right: We are ignoring history

Larry Simoneaux’s Monday column “When will we ever learn that we can’t back down” was excellent. The comparison of Hitler and bin Laden, al-Qaida and the other Arab fanatics was right on the mark.

The United Nations, as a relative of mine said years ago, is nothing more than a debating society with no clout that should have been located in the Arizona desert instead of New York City. Simoneaux is correct in saying that the Western world is sitting back like they did in 1939 and letting these terrorists run wild.

There is one difference, however. When we fought the Germans during World War II, it was conventional warfare. We knew who the bad guys were. Today the so-called war in the Middle East countries is being fought by a bunch of terrorist cowards hiding behind car bombs etc.

History, as Simoneaux indicated, is being ignored particularly by the Bushies who don’t understand that history often repeats itself. This time it’s the Muslim fanatics trying to eliminate the Jews in Palestine (Israel).
