The Herald readers who protested against its “left wing bias” and cancelled their subscriptions missed out! Debra Saunders’ column on June 18 surely would have quenched their thirst for repetition of the right’s false equivalence of Jan 6. with BLM.
Saunders protests that there’s no federal website tracking arrests of violent opportunists (she calls them “activists”) who operated under the cover of legitimate BLM marches. Later on, she mentions that “antifa-types often wear masks that hide their identities.” Ms. Saunders, most of the BLM marchers, and the agents provocateur among them, were wearing masks because people who are intelligent enough to recognize that systemic racism is real are also smart enough to realize that covid is real.
Saunders ignores the sequence of events. In Seattle, protesters were halted at a barricade by police, and remained there at the barricade, until one protester, jostled from behind, had her umbrella pushed over the fence. At that point, police gassed the crowd. When police snipers stationed on rooftops in Portland began shining their targeting lasers into the crowd below, protesters responded the next night with hand-held lasers aimed back at them. Tear gas and CS gas are banned for use as weapons of war by the Geneva Convention, but are apparently OK for police to use against Americans. Police not only gassed the protest, they also gassed neighbors who were huddled in their homes nearby.
If average Americans are more fearful of summer 2020 than they are of Jan. 6, it’s because of police escalation and right-wing propaganda.
