I’ve long thought the problem with Tim Eyman is his tunnel vision and inability to see the big picture. It has always bothered me that his enormous talent in swaying public opinion is wasted on the things he advocates. His comments on the demise of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer prove his short-sightedness. Calling the end of a major Seattle daily newspaper that has been covering the issues for 146 years the biggest non-event in a long time shows a complete lack of understanding of what has made America the force that it is.
Then, he shows his ignorance for all to see when he claims a contributing factor in the shutting down of the P-I was its advocacy of liberal policies. It doesn’t take a genius to realize the entire newspaper industry is threatened because the business model it has relied on for all these years no longer works in this digital age and so far nobody has come up with a new one that does. But then, nobody has ever accused Eyman of being a genius.
It’s my hope that those who have supported Eyman’s initiatives in the past will now realize the person drafting those initiatives does not have the capacity to understand the real issues of the day.
