Thanks to County Executive Dave Somers and select Snohomish County Council members, plans are proceeding at Snohomish County Airport at Paine Field to provide limited commercial air service later this year.
Commercial air service is expanding worldwide in response to the demand of transporting people and products in a timely manner. Snohomish County is fortunate to have a world-class airport that is paid for and fully equipped.
State of the art Boeing airplanes, and other large airplanes, have been flying out of Paine Field for years. Paine Field has continued to operate at below capacity for a long time with current estimates today at 30 percent to 35 percent of capacity. Proposed commercial air service flights at Paine Field will be negligible compared to current airport operations and flights that are recorded today. Proposed flights only represent about 3 percent of capacity.
Save Our Communities has attempted to deny commercial air service at Paine Field for years, working closely with the City of Mukilteo which has also opposed air service while spending thousands of taxpayer dollars. SOC’s current attention appears to focus on the limitation of the number of commercial flights per day with the purpose of causing delays in increasing future air service. While SOC has stated its support for the Boeing Co.’s assembling airplanes at the Everett plant, they oppose Boeing airplanes flying commercially out of Paine Field.
We are in a world that is changing very rapidly. Air access to markets will make a difference with the quality of life, business expansion, retention of jobs and the creation of new employment opportunities and jobs, job, jobs that will support current and future generations so they can work, live and remain here. Commercial air service at Paine Field will make the difference!
