Common sense must prevail on arena

I can no longer sit and read about the arena controversy. Why doesn’t this “citizens group” admit their real goal? To stop the arena, period! I’d be willing to bet this group, are the same core group, or just like the group, that fought the Navy base tooth and nail.

Do they wish to see Everett continue to be stagnate? I think so. Remember when Everett had a J.C. Penney’s store? How about a couple of movie houses and five and dime stores? They came because Everett was a promising city. Why do you think they are gone?

Is this citizens group going to fight progress again? Yes. Are they going to cost city government money and time again? Yes. I’ve got news for them. The majority of people want this events center. Like myself they are tired of driving to Seattle for events. To Lynnwood to shop at Penney’s, or see a movie.

Are the people going to pass up this opportunity to start making Everett a jewel of a city? A class city. I hope not. Everett can no longer afford to lose business. To use a bunch of run down, dilapidated buildings in a decaying section of town to stop progress is nearly criminal. I realize that there is sentimental value to a lot of people, but common sense must prevail in this case. People are tired of having to leave the area for all of the things this arena could bring to Everett. I only have one question for the citizen group, Did the Kingdome help make Seattle a world class city?
