Regarding the Aug. 31 letter about the hope that individuals with different political views can find some commonality eventually, well, that is not going to happen. We are not the United States of America anymore, we are the Divided States of America. Civility and kindness are rare, and in general we are a rude, self-absorbed society with a culture that is saturated in violence.
I’m not being pessimistic, I just call it how I see it. Oh, and these politicians, Democrats and Republicans, have lost the youth vote forever, and that is a fact. Young people don’t trust politicians from either side of the aisle and I don’t blame them at all for that. Welcome to the Divided States of America, everyone.
