I could Teletype and phone page and fax. I can even e-mail and IM. OK, an occasional blog now and then … but now I am to “Twitter”? Seriously … Twitter? (Is that Twitter with an “R” or an “Ah” as in “My Twittah”)? Do the people I communicate with/to in this manner become my “Tweeps”? Oh, and don’t forget, to Twitter, one must first “Tweet”? Seriously? Not enough? OK, there’s more. Now I am supposed to want people to “follow” me. Isn’t there a law preventing that?
Do I not have the need to communicate as strongly as the others in my genre? Rare is the time that I see a person without some form of communicating technology in their hands, furiously texting, talking, typing and now “tweeting” to one another. What used to be referred to as “The Three Rs” is now “The Three Ts?” Is this healthy? Do we really have that much to say and that strong a need to say it 24/7?
What ever happened to the peace and joy of “Sound of Silence”? People are constantly communicating! While grocery shopping, gas pumping, when dining at restaurants, while supposedly watching movies (don’t ya just love that “beep beep beep” while trying to concentrate on the plot?) … and just plain walking … every single minute of the day is now filled with people “communicating” to each other and I just have to ask, what is so damned important or interesting that it can’t wait until we get home to talk about it?
