September is here and with it, the beginning of another school year in Snohomish. At the end of the last school year Snohomish School District superintendent Dr. Neil Powell noted that service pins were handed out to district employees recognizing the years of faithful service they have devoted to our students. There were 573 pins given with a cumulative 6,445 years of service.
In addition, last year our district was blessed by hundreds of volunteers devoting over 20,000 hours doing everything from running the popcorn machine to helping out in the classroom. It is amazing what a community can do when it works together to support the education of our students.
Finally, two of the three current board members will not be returning after completion of their current term on the school board. I would like to thank Jay Hagen, Kathryn Deierling and Mark Hintz for their leadership in taking the school district through some tough times and making some tough calls. Because of their hard work, our district once again is able to devote its energy toward renewing the educational programs our students need to be successful in life.
Again, I would like to say, thanks, to all those I have named above plus all those others that will bless our students this school year with their time and talent. Snohomish is a community that cares about education and it shows.
