I want to thank Ray Gould and Peggy Dare for taking the time to write about such an important issue for all of Snohomish County (“Government by developers takes hold” Dec. 11 guest commentary). The comprehensive planning process should have at least one more hearing after the council finalizes details of the plan so that the community as a whole can have an opportunity to respond. As a city council member for the city of Snohomish, I especially want to know how the county’s plan will impact my city, its environment and its residents in terms of increased traffic and property taxes.
I hope that county Executive Aaron Reardon will meet this potential challenge and veto this plan if it shows itself not to comply with the Growth Management Act, has undue negative environmental impacts, and if it will ultimately contribute to more urban sprawl, increased traffic and higher taxes!
