On behalf of Camano Animal Shelter Association (“CASA”), I would like to extend great thanks to the local community and businesses for their overwhelming generosity in response to the collie rescue. We have received over $5,000 in donations which will be used to help defray medical expenses and extra employee wages needed to help care for the rescued dogs, and donations are continuing to arrive daily. We have also received hundreds of bags of dog food, cleaning supplies and grooming supplies, and our telephone continues to ring from concerned citizens asking how they can help. Whereas most of the response has come from individuals, we have also received very generous donations from Stanwood Thriftway, Collie Rescue, Costco, IGA, and Petco.
Currently, CASA is housing 27 of the 75 rescued dogs. The remainder have been sent to the Whidbey Animal Shelter and various foster homes who are more capable of providing specialized care, particularly to the pregnant and nursing collies. We have compiled a list of prospective foster homes in case any of the animals at the shelter begin to show signs of undue kennel stress.
CASA has compiled a list of over 300 prospective families who have expressed interest in adopting one of the dogs. If the justice system does not return the animals to their owner, we will begin to screen families for permanent home placement of the dogs.
CASA would like to thank the community for their overwhelming generosity and support. We would not be able to provide care for such a large number of dogs without the donations we have received. We will be updating our Website regularly with the progress of the collies. We hope that we will soon be able to provide each of them with a family who will provide them with the love and attention they deserve.
Thank you, once again, for your generous concern and support for these helpless animals.
Chairman, CASA
