I would like to respond to Gary B. Clark’s letter of June 9, in which he detailed the difficulties he had with a Uniform Medical Plan customer service call (“Companies provide poor service”). We have since attempted to contact Mr. Clark and explain the situation to him. The problem arose from one of our subcontractors, which serves UMP as well as several other health plans. The subcontractor mistakenly forwarded Mr. Clark’s call to one of their pilot projects which uses off-shore personnel. The UMP is not participating in this pilot project. We do not contract with off-shore entities to serve UMP enrollees. As soon as we can contact Mr. Clark, we will offer our apologies to him. We are working with the vendor to ensure that no other calls are accidentally routed to the wrong place, off-shore or otherwise. Thank you for the opportunity to clarify this matter.
