Mr. Alan Mullaly of the Boeing company recently reiterated the company’s concern about the traffic problem in the Seattle area. Apparently he is not aware that the Boeing Company itself is largely responsible for this problem.
By constantly relocating thousands of people between Everett and Renton and several other widely spaced plants, the company generates a greatly increased commuter load on our freeways. The displaced workers who cannot afford to constantly uproot their families and purchase new homes closer to their new work place, face an extended work day along with the expense of the extra mileage on their vehicles. In other words, a pay cut.
Part of the Boeing Company’s financial problems arises out of the building of office palaces, many of which were never fully occupied and were usually unsuited for their alleged purposes anyway. Gross mismanagement has been liberally rewarded with huge bonuses to upper management, even at times of major layoff.
