The recent letters to The Herald regarding Sen. Patty Murray’s speech to high school students shows a need for some people to attend world civics classes so that they can learn about the Osama bin Ladens of the world and how they achieve their power and their following.
The notion that Murray’s statements were worse than Trent Lott’s is almost unbelievable. How can any American state that racism is not terrorism? Lott’s statements were racist and many good Americans were murdered in this country because of the color of their skin or the religion they practiced.
We have black men and women in harm’s way as we speak, whose parents and grandparents were terrorized by the likes of the Trent Lotts of America. So please don’t claim to be an American against terrorism when you defend a Southern segregationist.
