Conard’s experience makes her top choice

I am writing this letter to encourage voters in the 10th Legislative District to vote for Nancy Conard for state representative, Position No. 1.

I have known Nancy for more than 30 years. Nancy was the Coupeville School District’s business manager. When I was elected to the board in the 1980s, the new year’s budget had already been adopted, but the state had to cut all state-funded programs by 15 percent due to revenue shortages.

Cutting $150,000 from a $1.1 million budget was like chopping a corner off the school building. Nancy was innovative and creative in cutting our state’s adopted budget, without cutting teachers or our program offerings. She was required to work with the federal government on newly adopted laws. Her ability to incorporate these laws into our schools without federal funding shows her innovation.

As business manager she served on various state legislative committees relating to school full funding. She served as vice president and secretary on the Washington State Association of School Business Managers.

She was elected to the Coupeville Town Council and served for four years. Her experience of working with and creating budgets helped her reach another career accomplishment. Nancy was elected mayor of the town of Coupeville and has served nine years. As mayor, Nancy created and operated within a set budget. As mayor you try to meet all unforeseen emergencies and then try to meet all federal and state laws dealing with community safety: Making mutual aid agreements with state and local and federal governments, ensuring master plans in case of disasters, in addition to ensuring the protection and proper use of town equipment.

The position Nancy Conard is seeking is one of experience, responsibility and compromise. Nancy’s ability to set priorities and accomplish those priorities is what we need in Olympia. I can assure you that Nancy will look out for the best interests of District Ten constituents.

Please join us on Sept. 14 and Nov. 2 by voting for Nancy Conard.
