Kudos to Ira Siebert and the fifth grade students of View Ridge Elementary School in Everett! (Article, “Fifth-graders hold mock election.”)
Earlier this month they held their Snohomish County General Election and showed the rest of us how voters should prepare to exercise their right and responsibility to participate in our government.
In only eight years this class will be registering to vote; they will come to the elections well experienced in the process of learning about the issues, studying the pros and cons, meeting/hearing candidates espouse their positions, asking questions, and voting. They will be prepared to accept the challenge of governing ourselves. I look forward to voting alongside them for many years to come.
