With the West Nile virus scare going on, I had to write and share a little preventive measure my grandmother taught me. During mosquito season she would pour a small amount of corn oil in small ponds of standing water. The oil coated the larvae, suffocating them, but had no negative effects on fish, birds, livestock or frolicking children.
