I am writing to protest your Nov. 1 headline in The Herald’s print edition that was clearly intended to sabotage the mayoral campaign of Judy Tuohy.
Your motive is quite transparent, since you endorsed her opponent earlier. Some voters will read no further than the headline, so the damage has been done, and your newspaper is solely responsible.
The correction that you published the following day, which did not include an apology, said that you had “misstated” her position on the Safe Streets Initiative. Your headline, in oversized typeface, was not a misstatement but an outright lie, meant to mislead.
Ms. Tuohy, with her many contributions to the city of Everett, deserves respectful, truthful coverage. This tabloid style journalism does not belong in a community newspaper.
