Corrections and apologies

Time to issue a few corrections and apologies:

  • Boeing did not phase out its operations in Everett as The Herald reported it would in 1957. Turns out the company decided to build a gigantic factory here instead. We regret the error.
  • Boeing’s 787 vice president, Mike Bair, said in March that production would go “faster than anyone anticipated.” It appears he wasn’t talking about production, but his own tenure in the 787 program. We regret the error.
  • Previous editions of The Herald reported that the Seahawks and Huskies were, quite possibly, good football teams. In reality, both are spending this fall ripping football fans’ hearts out and stomping on them. We regret the errors.
  • “The Price Is Right” lives on with Drew Carey doomed to a life of giving away new cars and trips to Mexico. Our prediction that we’d never see such kitschy TV without Bob Barker was incorrect. For Carey’s sake, we regret the error.
  • The U.S. accidentally launched a bomb on Qatar on Tuesday. On behalf of the United States, we regret the error. Qatar will be receiving a Hallmark card and an FTD “Sorry We Bombed You” bouquet.

Editorial: Push back news desert with journalism support

A bill in the state Senate would tax big tech to support a hiring fund for local news outlets.

A young man carries water past the destroyed buildings of a neighborhood in the Gaza Strip, Feb. 2, 2025. President Donald Trump’s proposal to “own” the Gaza Strip and transfer its population elsewhere has stirred condemnation and sarcasm, but it addresses a real and serious challenge: the future of Gaza as a secure, peaceful, even prosperous place. (Saher Alghorra/The New York Times)
Comment: ‘Homeland’ means exactly that to Gazans

Palestinians have long resisted resettlement. Trump’s plan to ‘clean out’ Gaza changes nothing.
