I am all for efficient transit service. But let us look at the numbers from the National Transit Database. It cost Everett Transit $78 an hour to operate a bus. It cost Community Transit $100 an hour to operate a bus. If the two systems merged, it would cost ET $2 million dollars more to operate at the same service levels. If CT was $5 an hour more efficient, CT would save $2.3 million; at $10, that would be $4.6 million. If CT operated its buses at the same rate as ET, that would mean a savings of $10 million. I think CT needs to get its house in order before telling someone else how to be more efficient.
