Councilman needs to show remorse

Regarding the Friday article, “Olson agrees to not drink until October to settle case”:

I’m sorry, but I find it hard to believe that an attorney and his client, who is also an attorney by profession, would be so inept as to not review a court order prior to giving and receiving legal advice!

Then, Mr. Olson has the audacity to blame his legal counsel for bad advice. It’s obvious we’re dealing with the adolescent mindset of “it’s not my fault” and denial here! Those elected to city councils are to be persons of integrity and accountability. Sure, grace can be afforded to those who make mistakes and are truly sorry for their errors in judgment, but one must also prove him/herself by their actions toward showing sincere remorse and true change. By agreeing not to drink until October, and being quoted after Thursday’s hearing of only saying, “I feel good” regarding the lame court decision in his favor, it doesn’t sound like he has done either!

Mr. Olson, half measures avail us nothing! If alcohol has been a problem in the past, it will be one in the future if one continues to drink. Hopefully, Mr. Olson has truly learned his lesson here and has “hit bottom.” One can hope for the best, but I expect to see him in the news again for another alcohol-related offense if he continues this attitude. And, shame on all those that are enabling him to that end!
