Council’s behavior at meeting poor

Disgusting. That sums up Mukilteo’s recent City Council meeting. Never mind that the public hearing was for a decision regarding the location of the new city hall. That decision obviously had already been made. Despite public testimony that favored the site near the new police station by a margin of 2 to 1, as well as the possibility that thanks to Rep. Brian Sullivan the city might not have to pay a dime for this property, only council members Tony Tinsley and Jennifer Gregerson voted for that option.

Unbelievably, the real news was the behavior of some of our elected Mukilteo representatives. I’m embarrassed and am quite disturbed by the bickering and other negative behavior I witnessed. Normal people do not act this way. The behavior I witnessed (I should have walked out in disgust like others did) was inexcusable and, except for one intervention by another council member, it was allowed to continue unchecked.

I’m not sure what the appropriate course of action is when behavior in a public meeting by public officials gets this out of control but I think the city needs to pay for some professional intervention and counseling.
