I wholeheartedly agree with the Matt Begley’s July 31 letter, “Corporations: Regulate them or lose democracy”. The American people need to wake up and see that corporations lobby for, and donate to campaigns for the corporate good, not the country’s good.
Corporations are not citizens of any one country, they are multi-national giants that go wherever they can get the most profit for themselves, not for the good of the citizenry of the countries they do business in. The American people should wake up and see that old, respected American companies are now subsidiaries of foreign corporations.
The People’s Liberation Army of China owns many U.S. companies through its holding companies. They lobby our Congress for special deals and the weakening of our environmental and labor laws; do you think they are operating for the good of the American people, or are they working for the good of the People’s LIberation Army and China?
Corporations are getting richer while small business owners and workers are getting poorer. I believe if things don’t change soon, the U.S. will be changed into a “Dickensian Hell,” of workers and small business owners stuck in impoverished conditions with no hope of ever changing their circumstances, surrounded by polluted air, water and land; eating polluted food and dying for lack of health care, while the wealthy live in walled, gated communities with clean food, safe water and good health care, far away from the madding crowd and polluted cities.
“War, famine, drought and pestilence now brought to you by Multi-National Corp. and our many governmental sponsors.” Remember, what’s good for the company, is good for the company.
