County Council District 1 race: Nehring doesn’t impress

Growing up young people like myself were taught to find role models they can look up to and strive to emulate. Often those role models are youths themselves. It is a great day for us when our fellow youths are our role models. This is because you know they worked hard in their raise to where they got to be and truly earned it. When you hear a youth has become a city council member or a mayor you believe it is in your reach too and you can achieve it if you try.

When I think of Nate Nehring and how he got where he is, that sense of pride and that great day do not come. From school to a job, youth have to earn their way and show they are can do just as much as adults can. Nate, in my opinion as a youth, has not shown that he earned his way. When you look at who he went up against when he was appointed you cannot help but wonder how he got the appointment.

If you look at what position he held before he was appointment for answers you are left wondering how the county chose him.

If you look at the endorsements he has received so far you see mostly the same endorsements as his father and most Republicans receive. When looking for youths to support you want one that other youths and youth organizations have gone out and supported not ones that have support handed to them because of who their father is. There is only one youth endorsement for Nate and it comes from college Republicans.

If you are a youth looking for a role model in the County Council’s 1st District race Nate Nehring is not that role model. He is more of someone to be cautious of what kind of candidate he will be for youth than someone to emulate.
