County council race: Kelly understands land planning needs

I have been a land use advocate in Snohomish County for more than 20 years. I have worked with county planners, the council, developers, community groups and private residents to prevent negative outcomes from development in our county. As a member of the Sno-King Watershed Council, I advocate for Smart Planning that will benefit all citizens not just the developers.

I am appalled that every member of our current county council voted to request a change in our countywide planning policies that would allow “urban growth area land swaps.” This is another effort to enrich the pockets of developers and one group of landowners. This swap would be done at the expense of some landowners for the enrichment of others.

Rezoning urban growth areas should be done comprehensively during the county update every 8 years and not in a piecemeal fashion that doesn’t fully address transportation (clogged roads) or environmental impacts (flooding).

Kristin Kelly would not let this happen. That’s why I’m supporting her for Snohomish County Council in District 5. Kristin understands how important smart land use planning is for all citizens’ quality of life and for our land. She will restore the community voice and stand up to the power the developers wield. She will protect the residents in District 5, and all residents in the county by making sure that land use decisions are not based on one person’s financial gain over the loss of another’s.

Please vote for Kristin Kelly and bring back balance to the council.
