While I do not live in Council District 1, I have been watching Councilman Nate Nehring since his appointment in January. In fact, it was a breath of fresh air to actually meet him and hear that he believes government should live within its means and should work to eliminate wasteful spending. I also heard that he spoke on KIRO 7 about the budget.
As a senior citizen living on a fixed income, I feel that I am being overburdened with tax increases at the federal, state and local level. It is one thing to talk the talk, but another to walk the walk. Nate Nehring does just that. He saved over $150 million in taxpayer dollars with his decisive vote to renovate, rather than replace, the county courthouse.
Nate has also taken other measures to make county government more efficient, and responsive to the taxpayer, including a vote in favor of consolidation of surface water management areas. I wish we had more leaders like Councilman Nehring who look to cut wasteful spending instead of automatically jumping to another tax increase. He not only represents Council District 1, but stands boldly for all county residents. He certainly deserves to retain his seat on the Snohomish County Council.
