I wanted to thank The Herald for publishing positive articles about mental illness. Also to columnist Julie Muhlstein (“Radio creep should take a flying leap,” Sept. 7) for advocating for the rights of the mentally ill to be treated with fairness and compassion.
I do agree there are many things wrong with the mental health delivery system in Snohomish County. Many individuals are upset about their care or lack of it. Yet with education about mental health problems we can bring about less stigma. Most mental illnesses are treatable with medications. The harder issues are the invisible scars that a person wears. Anyone who deals with mental health has to start to get real. We can attend meetings and wring our hands but without an effective delivery system, which includes peer support, getting creative with the lack of money, pestering the politicians to change the laws and action, nothing will change.
