It recently became clear to me that our government is being run by business with money, not the voters. Recently a cell tower was proposed within 50 feet of my property line. I have been e-mailing Jeff Sax and my federal government and have only received a response from Maria Cantwell. Her response was mainly lip service and when I asked for clarification, I did not receive a reply.
I was shocked to find out that Snohomish County does not have any rules specific to cell towers. Most other counties and cities have rules as far as setbacks from property lines and where you can put different types of towers. Some even have a master plan for cell towers.
Most commercial zones have already been filled with cell towers and now the residential and rural zones are being targeted for these cell sites. With the cellular companies wanting to deploy these towers as often as every mile, and having eight providers, without regulation, you could soon have towers denser than every mile in residential and rural neighborhoods. This is like trying to build I-5 one mile at a time, with eight different construction companies, none of which want to talk to each other. Expecting a positive result from this, without a master plan, is ridiculous.
I believe that like many other counties and cities, Snohomish County needs to have a moratorium on cell towers until zoning laws or a master plan specific to cellular sites are in place. I have created a Web site to allow all the people who are facing a cell tower battle to come together and fight as one. Please visit www.cell-out.org.
