I read with dismay the story of the elderly man, Mr. James Deming, the owner of a rather large property around Silvana.
The gentleman has stated he needs help, so what do officials do? Threaten to take $10,000 from the old guy that he does not have. They may as well make it $50,000. I am quite sure he does not have that, either. How about coming up with solutions rather than making the life of a nearly 80-year-old man stressful and seemingly impossible.
Yes, it probably is an eyesore, not a dangerous safety hazard as officials have labeled it. I can totally understand nearby property owners’ concerns as far as lowering property values. But to impose huge fines on an elderly man who wears three pairs of socks because his feet are covered in calluses, eats fruit bars and drinks strawberry flavored milk to sustain himself daily, could anyone of the so-called county officials live on $800 per month? Obviously the word compassion is not in their vocabulary.
