Regarding the Snohomish County Council proposal to fund affordable housing projects (“Snohomish County proposed 0.1% sales tax for affordable housing,” The Herald, Dec. 1)
So today it’s 0.1 percent, then 0.2 percent, then 0.3 percent. Where does it stop?
How many people do we support? There was a time when the total sales tax in Washington was 3 percent. That’s what happens when you “just a little here” and “just a little there” us to death. Every “freebie” we hand out draws more people to the liberal Puget Sound region where they know they’ll be coddled.
Nobody’s allowed to be uncomfortable here. It’s amazing how many people will figure out how to find a job when they’re cold and hungry. Who is this “affordable” housing “affordable” for? What about that person that’s struggling to make it and barely getting by? Is this tax increase going to be the last straw that pushes them over the edge too?
Most of these people are in their situation because they’ve made bad life decisions. Why should the rest of us pay for their bad decisions?
