We read the Thursday article, “County to pay builders $1.7 million to settle suits” in disbelief. What important fact(s) are we missing? Why is a King County judge ruling on something that affects only Snohomish County and its residents and no one in King County?
Wasn’t the Snohomish County official doing the job they were paid for — protecting Snohomish County taxpayers? How can Snohomish County pay a fine of $1.7 million when we have a looming deficit? Who will end up paying that? Why do the developers need out-of-state backing? Are Highway 9 and I-5 prepared to handle this kind of growth? Maybe that King County judge should have driven north or south during the rush hours on either of those highways before ruling.
But we are just taxpayers being taxed to death.
