I’m very relieved to see the refinishing of the right lane on the west-bound Highway 2 trestle was finished sometime late Sunday night. To the road crew that accomplished this task in such a short time, thank you and well done. Maybe now the self-appointed courtsy vigilantes will climb back into the woodwork, hopefully for good.
It was obvious to me that the person I encountered Sunday evening at about 4:30 p.m., was one of these self styled protectors of the highways. This person clearly hadn’t read the August 14 article, “Infuriating, but merging late is legal, blocking isn’t.” Nor had they read any of the Washington State Patrol’s answers in the “Streets Smarts” section, to the question concerning which lane to use and how they would prefer drivers use both lanes, prior to encountering the merge point. Or, perhaps they didn’t see our Community Transit buses using the right lane until the merge point. I decided to follow the State Patrol’s recommendation this particular evening.
Well, this idiot that I almost ran into (but with good tires, good brakes and a little luck managed to avoid) seemed to be trying to cause an accident. Not once, but twice. The first time by pulling out in front of me from the left lane, to cut me off and block the right lane. By the way, this was after he had already merged left. Then, again, by diving in front of me trying to cut me off in the left lane, after I had merged left. The whole time screaming out his window and flashing some sort of an identification that was not a badge. He should be advised that his description and license number have been turned into the State Patrol. I can only hope they do something to get him and his ilk off the road before they kill someone with their misguided ideas of justice.
