In light of the MPHS tragedy, how about a place called “Options.” A place to go, a place to call, a place to talk. This is nothing more than an idea, however, I do believe it could be a good start in helping to avoid tragedies like this one.
1. Provide a place to de-stress.
2. Provide solid information on alternatives for pre-determined situations.
3. Provide a well-trained staff both on site, and on call.
4. Connect referrals, rather than just providing a number to call.
5. Visit schools to bring awareness to this alternative by providing handouts as well as a brief stage presentation.
This is a very raw idea, however, this could be a very positive step forward in informing kids about “Options” and alternatives to solving their problems with a gun.
