I would like to share an experience that I had recently. I was sitting in my dentists’ office, located on Colby Avenue, when a man about 20-25 years old came into the office. I thought he was another patient and was watching him out of the corner of my eye. He came toward me and stopped a chair’s length away, then reached down and grabbed my purse that was sitting next to me. At this point we both locked eyes, and then he turned with my purse in hand and ran out of the office. It was not until he reached the door that it dawned on me what was happening, at which point I got up and ran after him. I chased him into the neighboring parking lot when the reality of the situation hit: Identity theft! Home break-in! Car theft!
During this time I was told Everett’s crime wave getting closer to my home base. I was horrified to hear of how few officers we have and how the crime is increasing throughout the city. I find it difficult to believe that the people in charge of the money coming into Everett find it necessary to cut services that protect us. What is up with that?
My situation turned out well, and I thank everyone involved. My purse was eventually found. But the fact that I was just sitting in a private office waiting for my turn under the drill, that this happened to me just blows me away!
So those of you in charge of funding the services that our city needs, please take another look at the results of your actions before the situation we are presently in gets worse.
