Criminals don’t obey the law

Regarding the Jan. 6 letter, “We could evolve in peace, security,” and Tuesday’s letter, “Police chiefs call for a state ban,” by two state senators:

The writers who are anxious to give up our Second Amendment rights are a perfect example of why our country is in terrible danger today. In an officer-down or civilian-down situation, most law enforcement officers know law abiding gun owners and concealed carry permit holders are their allies, not their enemies. Many lives have been saved by the lawful use of firearms, both explicitly and by the mere possibility that bystanders may be carrying a firearm.

It is fact, not conjecture, that those citizens taking the time, expense and effort to exercise their legal right to carry are largely responsible for the declining crime rate in those 40 states recognizing our constitutional right to bear arms. It shows arrogance by those who claim greater wisdom than our founding fathers, yet apparently believe our present day “leaders” are wiser than those who penned the greatest document in modern times!

When individual, God-given rights are deemed not worthy of support, the foundation of our society will collapse like rotten wood and the writer’s flock of homeless will increase exponentially!

The claim that “modern law,” whatever that is, would have made it safer for the six officers murdered by lawless monsters is ludicrous! Perhaps the direction in which this administration is moving, toward the implementation of Orwell’s “1984,” would have prevented the killings, but the result wouldn’t be a society I would want to live in! Criminals don’t obey the law, no matter how many laws you pass.
