We are sorry that Joan Ward, as related in her recent letter to the editor (“Parking limits don’t help disabled,” Wednesday), did not have a satisfactory parking experience at our new Snohomish County parking garage. We put our customers first at the garage. So we hope the following information will help clarify the concerns expressed by Ms. Ward.
Disabled parking spots are marked and reserved on every floor of the garage, not just on the Alder (first floor) level. They can be found on either side of all garage elevators. Additionally, individuals who have a valid disabled parking permit or license plate may park on city streets in any marked four-hour disabled zone. Or, a person with a disability may park for any length of time in a regular street parking spot – as long as their valid placard is displayed.
Everyone who parks in the county garage for more than 30 minutes pays for parking. The first 30 minutes of parking, anywhere in the garage, is free.
County customers are encouraged to take advantage of the “park and go” 30-minute parking located on the garage Alder level next to the elevators. This parking is provided for quick, in-and-out errands that folks believe they can complete within that time frame.
Customers who believe it might take a little longer than 30 minutes are encouraged to take a ticket and park. If business concludes within 30 minutes, then parking is free. If it takes a little longer, $2 will get you an additional 90 minutes of parking in the garage.
Citizens who have concerns about accessibility or accommodations for any of the county’s buildings should contact Mark Knudsen, the county’s Americans with Disabilities Act coordinator, at 425-388-3810; or e-mail him at Mark.Knudsen@co.snohomish.wa.us
