To fathers: Today is your day to celebrate what amazing fathers you are. You know who you are. As a grocery checker, I see the fathers who give mom a break and bring the children shopping, the single fathers raising their children and the fathers who faithfully keep their visitations.
I also
see the grandfathers who have taken the place of the father, as well as the stepfathers who have stepped up to the plate. You are all awesome men! If you don’t know now what an impact and a wonderful influence you are making, you will, as your children become adults.
Having grown up without a father in our childhood, my brothers and I were blessed to have our grandfather. As an adult, my father lived within miles of us all and in 40 years, I saw my father three times. Blood is not thicker than water.
My brothers and I were blessed again to have a wonderful stepfather who came into our lives when we were adults. We loved him dearly.
I am amazed what outstanding husbands, fathers and grandfathers my brothers Cris and Tim are. My brother Mike never married. He is an outstanding brother and uncle.
The saddest part of our lives is my brothers and I carried the scars of not having our father even care or show love.
Therefore, I ask all of you fathers to not let your children grow up and be scarred for life. It is unbelievable what a short time out of your lives you have to be a loving father before your children become adults. What a huge influence you are on not only them, but also to future generations.
