According to a recent article in the Denver Post, DaVita Corp. has settled a $495 million “whistle-blower” lawsuit. More than one case of Medicare fraud has been brought against this company, as outlined in the article. This is the company that the Everett Clinic proposes to link up with in a merger. DaVita operates in 11 countries, including in the U.S., and employs 67,000 people.
The more I hear and read the less I like, or approve of, this deal proposed by Everett Clinic. When and if this deal happens, members of the clinic will be a part of this organization also, in spite of the statement by the clinic that all will be “transparent” to patients. These lawsuits have hurt the DaVita bottom line as noted in the article. What will all this do to the Everett Clinic? The motives of the clinic administration are apparently more money for expansion, but at what price? Is it “need” or “greed,” “patient” or “profit”?
As a previous letter writer advised, “bigger is not always or necessarily better.” In this case bigger and corrupt is absolutely not better.
