In response to the Aug. 17 letter, “Larsen better read the Constitution,” I am mixed with sadness and frustration. The author seems to think that if something is not explicity mentioned in the Constitution, then it is not appropriate for our leaders to be dealing with.
I assume that the writer would rather not collect his Social Security and Medicare when he is eligible; that’s not mentioned in the Constitution, either.
What about the GI Bill, which helps veterans get additional training or education? Did he get just as angry about President Bush creating the Department of Homeland Security? Alas, he was likely one to loudly cheer when President Bush rushed to war on Iraq when, Constitutionally speaking, there was no “Declaration of War” against Iraq from Congress.
Why do many on the right continue to shout out these ridiculous rants like “read the Constitution” and “read the bill” when Rep. Larsen knows both of them? They disagree with the president on health care and want to make sure “Obama fails,” as Rush Limbaugh said.
Let’s face it, conservatives, elections have consequences and you lost. When you don’t have facts on your side, you make them up (death panels, birth certificate etc). You lost the White House and Congress, so it’s not that your voices won’t be listened to, but as a minority party, you just can’t set the agenda this time around!
