I read the Tuesday article in The Herald regarding the lawsuit that some parents filed over the Trafton Elementary School closure.
I feel it was a good business and financial decision to close Trafton, and a good decision for all the kids in the district. I feel the Trafton parents who are unhappy are only thinking of their own children, which is their job. But, it’s the School Board’s job to consider all the kids in the district.
Why should the rest of the district take large cuts in their budgets so that a few can have a very expensive school? From my understanding, it costs a lot more to send one Trafton student to school than it does one Kent Prairie, Pioneer or Presidents student to school. Maybe since these parents care so much they could put this effort toward helping to make the other schools in the district even better.
There are many parents in the district who support the decision the School Board made. It angered me when after all the discussion, they are still pursuing the issue and wasting district funds on attorney fees. Everyone needs to have their say and I was fine with that. But the decision has been made and now it’s time to make the best of what we have to work with.
