Defense of this war is simply ridiculous

Regarding Debra Saunders’ Wednesday column, “Bad news of war threatens coalition’s ultimate success,” I’d like to make a couple of points:

Saunders writes, “If the American Revolution were fought amidst all this naysaying, America would be a British colony today. … “

This is the most absurd comparison I’ve read in a while! We are the invading country in this case. We are the British in this comparison! Isn’t that clear to Saunders? Invading powers don’t win against people trying to defend their own countries. That is why we are not a British colony. We were defending ourselves from imperialism. The Iraqis are a nationalistic people that want to maintain their own autonomy just like we did.

Saunders also writes, “If Bush did what Cindy Sheehan wants him to do, not only would some 1,800 soldiers have died in Iraq for no reason – worse, their deaths will have served the unhappy function of signaling to terrorists that if they kill enough U.S. troops, the White House will cut and run.”

This is also a ridiculous comment because they have already died for no reason. Continuing down a bad path will never make it right, no matter how much George wants it to be. Bush lied to the American people about the reasons he took us to war. That is evident and that ship has long ago sailed. This is why every American should be appalled at what is happening.

Cindy Sheehan and all the other families who have lost relatives in this senseless war deserve our support!
