I want to start by saying that I am an independent. I don’t have an affiliation with any political party.
I was amazed to see Nancy Cooper’s recent letter (“Right demonizes Social Security, Medicare before cutting it,” The Herald, Oct. 16. Only Republican’s lie? Party makes no difference. Politicians lie, or at least, don’t tell the whole truth.
I’ll start with one everyone should recognize: “If you like you plan, you can keep your plan. If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor,” former President Obama when speaking about the Affordable Care Act.
Then we have former President Clinton say “I did not have sex with that woman.” He had to apologize after he was found guilty of perjury for making the same statement under oath. And, of course, he rose to a real position of power in the Democratic Party after his presidency ended.
The one that really makes me angry is Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Connecticut, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee. He claimed for years that he served on active duty in Vietnam. He didn’t. He used all the student deferrals that he could. When told he might have to report for active duty, he joined a reserve unit. I feel sorry for the people of Connecticut. Apparently, they don’t have anyone better to represent them.
So, they all lie. Party makes no difference. The only thing voters can do is try to find the one that might represent them as close to their own ideas and beliefs as possible.
