As the dawn on Fort McHenry did over a century ago, in defiance toward the attack on the United States, the gleaming sunrise in Monroe the other day revealed flag-lined streets.
As Francis Scott Key wrote in a poem that is now our National Anthem: “O say, does that Star Spangled Banner yet wave – O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!”
So it was then, so it is now.
We shall not let these senseless acts of murder and massive destruction deter our values or our pride. Rather we shall demonstrate our strength, unity and resources.
