Regarding the Feb. 22 front page article, “Deputy layoffs possible”: This really seems just so wrong that it makes me wonder what is really going on? How could you even suggest this as a way to remedy a budget shortfall for a short period of time? It takes years to hire, train and equip the deputies. Deputy morale must have just gone through the floor because of this article. Deputies, on the line, lose their lives almost every day across the nation trying to protect us from predators. It would be more responsible to reduce money wasted on chair warmers in middle management instead.
