While we are often asked to choose between crusty semi-retireds and crass job seekers when voting, we have the opportunity this fall to elect an energetic, intelligent, driven young fellow named Eron Berg I have talked to Eron several times at length, and have come away with these impressions: that he is a pragmatic environmentalist, that he is very committed to helping the citizens of the 10th district preserve and enhance the quality of life, and that he is in it for the long term.
The pragmatic environmentalist is becoming a necessity. Whether it’s transportation choices or shoreline management, Eron understands the need for real time, decisive action, balanced with great respect for the critical areas of our region. Having been raised here, in the bogs and farms of the La Conner wilderness, he is not about to despoil any of his beloved world, but at the same time he sees the need for efficiency in public policy.
He is in public life for the long term. He has enjoyed a lot of success as mayor of La Conner, and naturally wants to parlay that expertise to another level. Our investment in Eron Berg at this juncture could translate into a career that would support all of us for years to come. He is not a job-jumper but intends to stay put and collect invaluable seniority. I’d like to give him a start.
