It’s always interesting to read the letters to the editor section of the Herald.
Doug Beyerlein’s letter in the Aug. 4 paper is another interesting one (“Developers should pay for upgrades”).
Developers pay fees for traffic and road improvements. Now whether the county uses those fees in the way Mr. Beyerlein or myself feels is appropriate, or not, is another question. As for the amount of the fees developers pay: Is it ever enough to the people against growth?
People like Mr. Beyerlein complain about traffic and growth, and then at the same time whine about affordable housing.
Some of the questions they should be asking are: Why hasn’t the state been widening and building roads fast enough? In the ’90s, when the economy was steaming, where did all that money go? Why are other states able to build roads so much more efficiently and quickly than us?
All politicians, Republican or Democrat alike, are greased by someone. Don’t think the Democrats are immune.
An anti-growth County Council will be supported by the Sierra Club or the like. Aaron Reardon was supported by Master Builders, so I guess he must be in the back pocket of developers, too.
