According to a recent Hill-HarrisX poll of registered voters conduced online, 13 percent of white people watched the Derek Chauvin trial compared to 31 percentof African Americans. The large majority of white people do not care that Derek Chauvin was found guilty because with the verdict, whether he was found guilty or not guilty, they have necessarily upheld a justice system that has yet to be the arbiter of the type of nationwide retribution this moment calls for.
What criminal court case, past or present, has resulted in the permanent upliftment of African Americans? I’ll wait. Besides, the judge in the Derek Chauvin case already hung the grounds for an appeal on a Black woman. Derek Chauvin had the right to invoke his Fifth Amendment rights. But Maxine Waters should have known better than to exercise her First Amendment rights.
