With all of the letters being published regarding the turmoil that the Marysville School District is experiencing, I find myself compelled to write a positive letter in support of the Lakewood School District.
We are fortunate and blessed to have a fabulous school board that represents our community. Our board members have been and continue to be good stewards of our tax dollars, ensuring that our children will graduate from high school and be prepared for employment or higher education. For example, a voter approved construction bond funded an addition to Lakewood Middle School and the construction of a new K-5 elementary school, Cougar Creek. Both of these projects came in under budget. Excess dollars and state matching funds is allowing the remodel and addition currently taking place at Lakewood Elementary School. The board is also committed to ensuring that all schools are equitable and enhancements to English Crossing Elementary School will occur in the near future.
On April 27, voters in the Lakewood School District will have an opportunity to support Lakewood schools by voting yes on the proposed Maintenance and Operations Levy. Approximately 17 percent of the school’s annual operating budget is funded by local tax dollars. The children in the Lakewood School District need your yes vote so that the board can continue to fund programs at their current levels.
Please, either by absentee ballot or at the polls on April 27, vote yes for Lakewood Schools.
