The Marysville School District declares its motto as “Together for Children.” But there is something terribly wrong in our district as is evidenced by the school board unanimously giving Dr. Linda Whitehead, our superintendent, the top accolades possible to heap on her when you consider the following: Why, if she is doing such a great job, are teachers, building administrators and others feeling disenfranchised, demoralized, discouraged, ignored and frustrated by this alleged dynamite leader? Why are we losing our kids by the handfuls after elementary school? Why isn’t the school board acting as the check and balance for this superintendent? They are the only checks and balances of this most powerful position and the individual in it. Is she really only capable of leading the small number of people on the board and not the entire district?
There are many more questions in the Marysville District than there are answers. My main two reasons for writing this letter are that we have to pass this May 20 levy. The ones who will suffer from not having the levy pass will be our precious children, as usual. “Together For Children.” Right.
The other reason is to bluntly state that we have big problems here in the Marysville School District. We must change the direction this district is taking. There are three seats up on the school board this September. All of those members need to be replaced by competent individuals able to resist the “leadership” now in place. This will take lots of people, hard work, commitment and teamwork. What other choice do we have? For now let’s pass this levy – for our kids.
