I support the teacher all the way and I think it’s time for the district to get busy and do something. District officials say they don’t have any more money to give to the teachers but they seem to have money to send parents letters in the mail. Since the strike I have received four letters and most of the news written in them I had already either read in the paper or heard on the news. If they took the cost for stamps alone on 8,000 students (which is not the total number of students) for the four letters they’ve sent, they would have $11,840. They could figure in the paper, envelopes and everything else and the time to do them and they would probably have enough money to give the teachers a raise.
These letters come out during the school year along with the school newsletter and they are always outdated. The district has money to spend on letters, chairs and paper for itself but if the teachers need something copied for their class they have to furnish their own paper. I don’t think it’s right that the teachers should have to pay for their own school supplies. I think it’s time to take this money and put it towards our teachers. It seems like my taxes keep going up but I don’t see the teachers or the schools benefiting from them.
I don’t think they should be raising the number of kids in a classroom either, as I feel 30 is too many. I have a student in high school and right now it’s hard enough for him to get time with the teacher when there are 30 students or more in the class.
